    reduce unnecessary lighting on campus

    Expired
Reduce the unnecessary lighting on campus which is too bright and in areas where it is not needed. For example, in the carparks at night. This would reduce light pollution for wildlife like bats and moths while also reducing electricity costs. This wouldn't threaten safety as it can be reduced from its current high level, not removed entirely from areas where few people go.

Why is it relevant to Falmouth & Exeter students?

In the current biodiversity crisis, having a campus that does its best to cater to wildlife becomes vital. Light pollution is a major issue for many nocturnal species like bats and moths. Funding for our university is an often cited issue by the university faculty. So as clear a waste of money as this should be an obvious step to ensure more funding for other aspects of the student experience.

What positive impact would it have?

It would encourage more biodiversity on campus by reducing unnecessary light pollution. And reduce electricity costs so funding can be better spent on improving student experience. For example, increasing lighting in areas where it is needed, like the path at the bottom of campus and the stairs leading to it.
