SU President Falmouth

Jadelle Luckman

Hi, I’m Jadelle (she/her)! I’m from the West Midlands but moved to Cornwall to start my degree in Popular Music in 2020 (I’m basically a local now). I really enjoy spending my free time at the beach or going on costal walks. I also love to go to open mic nights to both sing and watch other musicians.

After being a student at Falmouth for four years, I am extremely passionate about the student experience and aim to improve this throughout my year as President Falmouth. My desire to be a representative and a (very) loud voice for students of minority groups stems from working as an ambassador during my time as a student. Community, collaboration, and employability skills are key to driving successful student projects, therefore, these areas are the forefront of my manifesto.

SU President Exeter

Connie Chilcott

I’m Connie, your President Exeter for 24/25, I’m a spirited person who loves the ocean and you’ll often find me on the beach or in the sea! My background is centred around community organising and collaboration, I strongly believe that meaning can be found within our relationships with others. This belief has made me an empathetic person with a drive to create change in our communities. I find the ocean to be a magical and calming place, it rejuvenates me and allows me to decompress - something that’s necessary in our busy lives! I enjoy spending time surrounded by loved ones, usually sharing a home-cooked meal or laughing in nature; these relationships sustain and nourish me. With a care for our Earth and all inhabitants, I hope to encourage and uplift our diverse community to thrive and generate change.

SU Vice President

Marketa Carruthers

Hi all! I'm the new Vice President for 2024/25 and I love an adventure and protecting the health of our planet lies at the core of my motivations.

This year, I am here to represent the student voices of those that believe in a green future. Without the health of the Earth, there is no health of people. Sometimes it feels as though our future is bleak, but that is why we can come together to empower our voices and fight for change.

SU Vice President

Fina Day

Hey all, I’m Fina (they/them) one of your Vice Presidents for 2024/25! I am recent zoology graduate originally from Northampton, Massachusetts. As a queer international student, I am passionate that everyone on campus should feel included, safe, and like they belong. This year I aim to combine my passions for conservation and the natural world with my strong beliefs surrounding inclusion, mental health support, and amplified minority voice. When not in the office you are likely to find me wandering barefoot through gardens, out on the water rowing, or cuddled up with a cup of tea and a crochet project. I am always down for a stroll around campus, or a hot drink so please don’t hesitate to come find me with any issues or just for a chat!

I love hiking and exploring new locations around Cornwall and have been involved with the Expedition Society committee since my 2nd year of University as Walk Officer, President and as their Treasurer this year. As well as that I love heavy metal music, coffee, playing the drums, am a massive Pokemon nerd, and try and run occasionally too but hoping to try out different sports this year that I can do a bit more consistently! At the moment I am very much obsessed with marine turtles after the incredible time I had with SPOT Marine Life in Cyprus so will happily chat your ear off about that. Looking forward to helping highlight the beautiful area our campus is based in and getting to know you all too!

Thomas

A photo of Thomas on the beach with the sea in the background

My name is Thomas, I am currently studying BA (Hons) Marine and Natural History Photography at Falmouth University, Cornwall. I am passionate for photography and film making with an ambition to be a wildlife photographer and camera operator. Being able to share stories of our natural environment is a privilege, to promote an understanding of biodiversity and conservation and to record photographic evidence is one way I feel of doing this. I have been captivated by photography from the age of 10, when I was able to borrow a camera from my uncle, whilst at my local RSPB site. I captured a Kingfisher on this my first photoshoot, and it opened the gateway of a fascination of wildlife and nature photography.

Jena

A picture of Jena

Hi! I'm Jena (she/her), a second-year Politics and International Relations student. I grew up between France and UAE. When I'm not studying in the library, you can catch me soaking up the sun on the beach, lost in a good book, or whipping up something delicious in the kitchen. I have a passion for fresh, local food, which is why I'm thrilled to be on the committee for the Penryn Produce Society. I'm also an avid sailor and love being out on the water, so I'm involved with the Fal Sail committee too. Music is a big part of my life; I play both the piano and the guitar, and I’ve found that the music scene in Fal is fantastic. Jam Nights and open mic nights on a Wednesday are my favourite and if it's Tuesday, you'll likely find me at the pub after a lively meeting with the Progressive Society. Looking forward to meeting you and sharing some great times together!

Charlotte (Lottie)

A photo of Lottie

Hiya I'm Lottie, I use she/her pronouns and I'm a creative writing student. One of the main reasons I came to Falmouth was so that I could be close to the sea as I love swimming and it's one of my hobbies, I really like to incorporate it into my work and other hobbies such as baking (AKA I attempted at making a starfish cake but it went very badly). So whilst you're studying in Falmouth I would definitely recommend making the most of living by the sea and splashing around!

SU Crew

Ana

A photo of Ana sat on concrete with the beach in the background

Hiya! My name is Ana and I’m a second year doing Robotics. I am an international student from Dubai. I’ve recently turned into a bit of a social butterfly and love chatting with and befriending anyone nearby. I’m part of two society committees — President of Aerial Soc & Treasurer of Asian Soc. When I’m not having the day to myself, you’ll find me exploring Cornwall’s beaches or playing card games with friends. I always carry a deck of cards with me, ready for a game at any moment. I go by she/her pronouns, and some of my hobbies include sea glass searching, long walks for bragging rights (I’ve walked to Truro from Penryn!), and most recently cross-stitching.

Maya

My name is Maya (she/her) and I am a fourth year zoology student. I love the outdoors, though I will never say no to a quiet night in with a board game. I’m also quite musical – I’ve been a member of the Chorus society since I first started here, and I’ve played the piano since I was a kid. My favourite animal changes on almost a weekly basis (right now it’s puffins), but I’m always a fan of reptiles and amphibians, so don’t be surprised if you catch me pond dipping! I hope to see you at lots of fun events and never be afraid to stop and chat if you see me out and about. It’s gonna be a fun year :)

Avery

Hey all! I'm Avery (she/her), one of your SU's Crew members. I'm studying Evolutionary and Behavioural Ecology part-time at the University of Exeter. I adore backpacking along the southwest coastal path, drawing insects and flowers, D&D and romance novels. Musicals and dinosaurs are my absolute jam. Spinosaurus aegyptiacus is my favourite. If you have a favourite extinct species, I'd love to hear all about it. The most ridiculous thing I've ever done is faceplant into an octopus whilst scuba diving (the octopus was fine afterwards). As a chef, I love experimenting with new vegan recipes, especially one-pan stews and casseroles. If you have any concerns or questions about your Students Union I'm here to help.

One of my favourite illustrators is Keith Haring because of his playful visual language and the positive impact he has made as an activist. I like to try various crafts like bracelet making, painting t-shirts, pottery, and even making sushi. I constantly listen to music from a range of genres, and some of my favourite artists include Dominic Fike, Leith Ross, and Stray Kids.

Last year I was Subject Chair of Student Representatives of the Centre for Geography and Environmental Science: it is really important to me that student voice is a priority at university! Outside of Uni, I can usually be found playing guitar, listening to music, looking after my houseplants, building models, or on an adventure around Cornwall with my camera. My favourite book is Coming Up for Air by George Orwell and I highly recommend it. My goals for this year are to become a better baker and to just have fun! Fancy a chat? Email me: Grace.Bishopp@thesu.org.uk Otherwise, I can’t wait to meet you all :)

Max

Hi, I'm Max! I use He/Him pronouns and I'm currently in my final year at Exeter, pursuing a BA in History and Politics with Study Abroad. I recently spent an incredible year studying in New Zealand, which broadened my academic and personal horizons, and I'm thrilled to be back in Falmouth for my last year. That said my highlight of my travels was definitely exploring the surfing town of Raglan with my girlfriend and going sea swimming in winter together. One of my favorite parts of the Student Union is the societies, especially Expedition Society, where I had the opportunity to help organize events during my second year. I’m passionate about the outdoors and can’t wait to explore the Cornish coast on more hiking adventures while I study. I'm looking forward to making the most of my final year here and connecting with new people along the way as an SU crew member!
