      Bring back free soup Fridays!!

Why is it relevant to Falmouth & Exeter students?

We have an opportunity to get good healthy free food

What positive impact would it have?

It had a very positive impact on myself and other students! We ate a very good and healthy meal for free and personally inspired me to make my own soups

1:20pm on 26 Feb 26 This proposal has gained sufficient student backing (at least 10 likes and 10 more likes than dislikes within six weeks). It has been reviewed and approved by the Executive Committee and it will be discussed and voted on at the next Student Forum on 17th March.

12:52pm on 2 Apr 26 UPDATE from forum 17th March 2026: After being put to a student vote, this proposal was discussed, debated and voted in as a Union Priority by students, with the condition that the soup stays free. This means that there will be a key focus on this work by the sabbatical officer team, it also means that officer budget will be allocated to this work. Aisha, the Vice President Falmouth and Avery, the Vice President Exeter will be leading on this union priority, working with the sabbatical team and appropriate members of staff/students in carrying out this work. Free Soup Friday was originally initiated by a previous sabbatical officer of the SU and has since continued every Friday to help students build community, ensure a nutritional meal within their diet and help with the challenges currently faced through the cost of living crisis. Unfortunately, due to the capacity of our current space and team, we have faced some logistical difficulties with continuing Free Soup Friday. The sabbatical officer team have been working hard on both a long and short term solution to ensure this work can continue. We have recently introduced 'soup tokens' to help us handle attendee numbers and health and safety concerns, as well as adding extra food options for students to add to the meal. Through this union priority the officer team will work on a more sustainable, long-term plan that works to provide as much free soup Friday to as many students as possible in a consistent and sustainable way. Any students who wish to be involved in the working of carrying out this union priority, please reach out to Aisha Lord (Aisha.k.lord@thesu.org.uk) - I'd love to hear from you!! :)
