The SU to commit to mature student enrichment

    Expired
Mature students are given that distinction in recognition of a differing experience when attending university and yet the opportunities for enrichment in the Mature student calendar are limited to a coffee once a month. Vote to get The SU to commit to developing, funding, delivering a plan over the next three years to reform the mature student experience by providing enrichment opportunities of a mature focus that attend to our well-being as well as our social and personal development.

1:11pm on 3 Nov 23 Absolutely agree here. I can rarely make the monthly meet up due to a seminar clash or parenting responsibilities. Be fantastic to have some time to meet other mature students

10:45am on 9 Nov 23 It would be great to increase the understanding of the challenges that Postgrads and mature students face amongst support services. We seem to fall straight through the gap between undergraduate and staff in almost all communications and methods of support and guidance.

11:10am on 9 Nov 23 There definitely needs to be more recognition around caring responsibilities (eg children). I have been told ‘we can’t do that for everyone’ re timetabling to take account of school pick up. Have been meaning to raise this - of course we can’t do everything for everyone, but we can at least take notice when people really need it and can evidence it, esp if it's for a social responsibility (raising the next generation).

11:38am on 9 Nov 23 Definitely agree that as a mature student there could be more enrichment opportunities and accomadations in general. Many of us are parent carers and may even be snadwich carers so it would be great if these issues are acknowledged in some way as adding to our experience of university and juggling work/life balance.

11:54am on 9 Nov 23 I seem unable to vote but this society is vital. I've been a student at Penryn for 4 years and the provision for and understanding of the different needs of mature students is non-existent. Pitiful!

12:02pm on 9 Nov 23 We need a voice for a seemingly invisible group. With that voice we get a say and that enables dialogue and hopefully change where needed. Thanks for allowing us to make a start.

8:41am on 10 Nov 23 100% agree. I didn't even know there was a coffee morning?? Easy to feel like you don't fit in anywhere as a mature student, whether that is support or social activities.
