Your Guide to Welcome Fayre

If you're starting university this year, one event you definitely don't want to miss is Welcome Fayre.

Taking place on Wednesday 16 September from 12pm–3pm, Welcome Fayre is your chance to meet The SU, discover clubs and societies, chat to support services and local businesses, and leave with a bag full of freebies.

Whether you've already got a long list of things you want to join or have absolutely no idea where to start, this is the perfect place to begin.

What is Welcome Fayre?

Think of Welcome Fayre as your introduction to everything university life has to offer outside of your course.

Across Penryn Campus, you'll be able to explore student societies, sports clubs, support services, local businesses and opportunities to get involved throughout the year.

It's a great way to discover new hobbies, meet people with similar interests and learn more about the community you'll be part of.

Where is it?

The event takes place across Penryn Campus, with different areas to explore:

  • The Stannary – Societies

  • Sports Hall – Sports clubs

  • The Exchange Courtyard – Local businesses, support services and more

  • The SU – Meet The SU team and find out how they can support you during your time at university

If you're arriving by train, head up the steps towards the Lodge and continue up the hill – The Stannary is opposite the Campus Shop. Coming by bus? Simply follow the path towards the shop.

Don't worry if you're unsure where to go – there'll be plenty of signs around campus to help you find your way.

You Don't Need to Have Everything Planned

It's completely fine if you don't know which societies or sports clubs you want to join yet.

In fact, some of the best discoveries happen by accident.

Take your time, wander around, ask questions and see what catches your eye. You might find something you'd never even considered before.

Talk to People

Everyone on the stalls wants to chat.

They're current students and staff who remember exactly what it was like to arrive at university for the first time.

Ask them what it's like to be involved, whether beginners are welcome or what a typical week looks like.

There are no silly questions.

Don't Forget the Freebies

Let's be honest—they're part of the experience.

From tote bags and stationery to vouchers and useful information, there's plenty to collect, so bringing a reusable bag isn't a bad idea.

Accessibility Matters

Welcome Fayre can be busy, with bright lights, crowds and plenty of activity happening across campus.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, there are quieter spaces available. The Multifaith Chaplaincy will be open throughout the event, with the Disabled and Neurodivergent Society based there too, making it a welcoming place to take a break or ask questions.

You'll also find accessible routes around campus, accessible toilets, and members of staff on hand throughout the event if you need support or directions.

Make the Most of It

You don't have to sign up to everything on the day.

Collect information, follow groups on social media and go along to a few taster sessions before deciding what's right for you.

Welcome Fayre is all about discovering what's available, not committing to everything at once.

See You There!

Whether you're hoping to make friends, find a new hobby, join a sports club or simply see what's on offer, Welcome Fayre is one of the best ways to start your university journey.

Come along, say hello, ask questions and see where university life could take you. You never know—the society you almost walked past or the conversation you nearly didn't have could end up becoming one of the best parts of your university experience.
