What Actually Is The Students' Union?

Welcome

Starting university is weird.

Exciting weird. Scary weird. “I’ve packed my whole life into storage boxes” weird.

Some people arrive feeling completely ready. Most people don’t.

Whether you’re moving across the country, staying close to home, already making group chats, or quietly panicking while pretending you’re fine, you’re not the only one.

That’s where we come in.

The SU is here to help make university feel less overwhelming and a lot more like yours. We’re student-led, here to represent you, support you, and help you get the most out of your time in Cornwall - however that ends up looking.

And honestly? There’s no “correct” way to do uni.

You don’t need to:

  • have loads of friends immediately

  • go out every night

  • join twelve societies

  • know your life plan by October

You’re allowed to take your time.

But wait… what actually is The SU?

Fair question.

Your Students’ Union exists to make student life better.

That means we:

  • represent students and push for change

  • support you when things go wrong

  • run events, campaigns, societies, and sports

  • help you meet people and build community

  • make sure student voices are actually heard

Basically: if something affects students, we probably have something to do with it.

We’re independent from the universities too, which means our advice and support services are here for you first.

So whether you want help with housing, want to start a society, need academic advice, have an idea to improve campus life, or just want somewhere to feel connected — we’ve got you.
