Following the Supreme court ruling and the interim guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) on the interpretation of a woman being defined by biological sex in law, we know that some of you are feeling upset, confused, and even unsafe.
As an organisation, we uphold the values of inclusivity and empowerment in how we serve our students. We consider the impact of our work, on and for everyone, not just for those who are most visible. We strive to reach, respect and work with those who may need our help and support most.
The SU has and always will be a safe place for all students, and we will continue to stand with and support our trans and non-binary students and allies. You are welcomed and valued members of our students' union and we are here to listen.
We understand that people will have many questions, and we too do not have all the answers yet, but we will continue to lobby for the rights of our trans students.
We wait for our partner universities to consider their next steps on the ruling, and will continue to update you on any developments.
