About the event
Generally defined as ‘woody perennial plants that support lateral branches and grow to a ‘considerable’ height’, trees come in many shapes and sizes from small fruit trees to gigantic, towering redwoods. Trees play essential roles in terrestrial ecosystems, and even individually, a single tree can provide a habitat for huge community consisting of a variety of organisms.
Join experts from the Budding Nature team for a friendly, one-day introductory workshop to tree identification. From adpressed buds to sharp thorns, simple leaves to peeling bark, and colourful fruits to hairy leaves, enjoy learning about the key features that distinguish different tree species.
The workshop will begin indoors, with a gentle introduction to tree forms and structures, and a guided opportunity to examine a range of selected tree specimens. Then, following a break for lunch, you will use your new-found skills in the field, with a wander to identify trees that are present.
We will meet in Exchange Courtyard Room 8 at 10am to begin the session. Tickets are £8 each and will go live on Monday at midday. Places are limited so make sure to get one quickly to avoid disappointment! Hope to see you there!
