About the event
🏰 ST MICHAEL’S MOUNT TRIP
St Michael’s Mount is a tidal island just off Marazion, with a historic harbour village and a castle at the summit.
At low tide, we will walk across the causeway to the island, explore the village and climb up to the castle. As the tide rises in the afternoon, we will return to the mainland by boat.
🏰 A LITTLE HISTORY
- The Mount developed from a medieval priory founded in the 11th century.
- Fortifications were added from the late 12th century onwards.
- It later became an important defensive site, with cannon maintained into the Napoleonic Wars.
🚌 GETTING THERE
Transport is not included in your trip ticket. You will need a Cornwall Dayrider, costing £10, or £8 for students when purchased through the Transport for Cornwall app.
We will travel together on the #3 bus, leaving:
- 11:20 – The Moor, Falmouth
- 11:40 – Penryn Campus
- 13:12 – Arrive Marazion
The journey takes around 1 hour 40 minutes. The service changes from the #3 to the #2 part way through, although you can usually remain on the same bus while the service number changes.
Return journey:
- 16:57 – Depart Marazion
- 18:38 – Penryn Campus
- 18:51 – The Moor, Falmouth
If travelling separately, please meet us in Marazion at around 13:10.
Alternatively, we may take trains to Penzance (1h), then walk 40 minutes along the coast there. This also takes around 1h40m, will be at roughly the same times and costs similar. We may have to do this if there are bus strikes or disruptions.

The castle is also a place of worship, so inappropriate clothing, including swimwear or very revealing clothing, is not permitted.
