About the event
Southern Trials was a highlight for those who went last year and it promises to be just as exciting in 2026. It will involve a car trip on Friday to Dartmoor where we have some time to socialise with other universities. Following this, there is usually a mini teach before eating dinner and going to sleep.
On Saturday, we begin scenarios with our team. We usually have 4 roles; leader, yapper (to get a history and reassure patients), A-E person and an odd-jobs person (Obs, investigations etc). Throughout the day, you will rotate in your role so that everyone experiences each position a few times and learns how they can improve their teamwork.
In the afternoon, there is time to chill before a contest and joint event in the evening. Previous years have involved teams baking a themed cake to be judged by a panel of not so experts. There is usually a fancy dress theme for the evening and a shared game usually involving alcohol, jokes and a lot of laughing.
The Sunday morning will be a mass casualty scenario which is the most hectic but still very entertaining part of the trip with simulated members of the public trying to interrupt your treatment as well as the general frenzy of 15ish people trying to treat 20 casualties.
Following the mass casualty simulation, all teams gather around to hear the scores and winners as well as the winner of a secret, hidden prize. After all the excitement and action, it's then time to head back and savour the experience.
We highly recommend attending. Please apply for the team through this link.
We hope to see you there :)
