FAQs

What is the NUS National Conference

The NUS National Conference is the sovereign body of the NUS, attended by 1,500 student members of all backgrounds from Students’ Unions at Universities all over the country. This is where NUS policy is set for the year ahead, and the NUS President, Vice President and the NUS National Executive Council are elected. The 2024 National Conference is taking place on 17 and 18 April in Blackpool, and we have the opportunity to send three elected delegates to represent Falmouth and Exeter Cornwall students at the conference.
What is the NUS Liberation Conference?
The Liberation Conference is an opportunity for student activists belonging to marginalised groups from across the UK to come together and influence the direction of NUS liberation campaigns for the coming year, and to elect their officers and committee. There are 6 delegate positions available, across each of the following groups:
  • One Black Student*
  • One additional place for a Black* Woman Student
  • One Trans Student
  • One LGBT+ Student
  • One Disabled Student
  • One Woman Student

*NUS uses Black to denote people of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean Heritage. The NUS Liberation Conference is taking place on 15 and 16 April in Blackpool.

What do conference delegates do?
Delegates represent Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union and our members at the annual conferences, voting on behalf of the student body and taking part in discussions on the future trajectory of NUS. The main purposes of the conference are to:
  • Scrutinise the work of NUS and their elected officers.
  • Set the direction of NUS through campaigns and policy.
  • Elect future leaders of NUS.

Delegates are elected in a cross-campus ballot, specifically for the purpose of representing students at the national conferences.

This is a great chance to draw attention to the issues that you care about on a national stage and discuss and work towards solutions with like minded students.

Why should I be interested?
  • Potential to influence change that will benefit students across the UK.
  • Opportunity to meet and work with like minded students on issues that you care about.
  • Opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills that will look great on a CV.
  • Food travel and expenses covered where appropriate.
