This year, we have had to do a lot of things differently. As students, you have had to face challenges and adversities that no student body before you has had to face. We are living through both a global pandemic- which has caused undue and direct disruption to your student experience- and the largest civil rights movement in our global history- a galvanising call for unity and justice- at once. A stark light has been shone on the flaws inherent in our political, economic and social infrastructures, and the fragility of democracy has been exposed in the most unsettling of ways (yes, Trump, we’re looking at you).

If we have learned anything in the face of these challenges, it’s that your student voice, and our need for democracy, are stronger and more powerful now than ever before!  It has been a rollercoaster of an academic year, and you have had to adapt and overcome in order to strive.

In the spirit of adaptation, we have transformed our President Elections 2021 elections process, making it entirely digital. In this “unprecedented” year, where curveballs have become the norm, we have had an “unprecedented” turnout of Presidential candidates. We’re thrilled to say that we currently have the most candidates at this stage in the elections process in our recent (and distant) history as an SU! The President Elections 2021 are proving truly to be an election like no other, in a year like no other, and this incredible turnout brings us a lot of hope for what’s to come.

At a time when standing up for what really counts is our collective call to action, your peers have stood up in numbers we could have never predicted in the hope of becoming one of your core representatives and striving to make lasting, meaningful change.

Meet your candidates at www.thesu.org.uk/presidentelections2021, and keep an eye out for their manifesto announcements coming soon... (We’re excited, and you should be too).
