I wanted to share how impactful the Student Project Fund has been for me and the projects I have been running as a student.
The fund has genuinely enabled me to bring ideas to life that would not have been possible otherwise. It has allowed me to not only promote my student led business, but more importantly, to create inclusive events that bring students together, build confidence, and create lasting memories within our campus community.
The first event we delivered with support from the fund was a Chess Tournament. We had 30 students attend, many of whom had never played before. What made the event special was how welcoming and accessible it felt. Some students came alone and left having made new friends. Others learned how to play chess on the day and gained confidence trying something new in a relaxed environment. The funding allowed us to provide branded chains and hats as giveaways, which added excitement and gave attendees something tangible to remember the event by. For me personally, planning and executing this event developed my organisational skills, leadership, and confidence in running community focused initiatives.
The second event was a Talk and Shop hosted at Bolt in Falmouth. This event created a space where students could speak directly with brand owners from Falmouth and across the UK. It gave attendees real insight into entrepreneurship, creative industries, and how independent brands operate behind the scenes. The Student Project Fund allowed us to provide free products for attendees, which increased engagement and encouraged participation. More importantly, it legitimised the impact we are trying to have in the area by showing that the Students’ Union supports student led enterprise and creativity. The event helped students network, ask questions openly, and feel inspired about their own ideas and ambitions.
The final event we delivered through the Student Project Fund was the Toast Party, which was a huge success. We had around 200 people attend, creating an energetic and memorable atmosphere. It was incredible to see that many students in one space, connecting and celebrating together. The funding allowed us to provide souvenirs and added value elements that made the event feel special and well organised. Beyond the numbers, what stood out most was the sense of community. Students were building memories, meeting new people, and engaging in a positive environment aligned with Students’ Union values of inclusivity, creativity, and student empowerment.
Overall, the Student Project Fund has not only supported my business growth, but more importantly, it has enabled me to create safe, engaging and community driven experiences for students. It has helped me develop practical skills in event management, marketing, budgeting and leadership, while also contributing to campus life in a meaningful way.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity and support, and I hope to continue creating projects that bring students together and reflect the spirit of our university community.
