Name

Charlie Currie

Age

21

Sport

4X Mountain Biking

How did I get into the sport?

After a few years of racing BMX, a national standard 4X was built in Maenporth. After giving it a go, I was completely hooked and haven’t looked back since.

Achievements

2 x Junior National Champion,
3 x GB World Championships Team,
2nd Elite National Championships.

Injuries

Dislocated AC joint (April 2019)
Fractured Vertebrae (August 2013)

Best memory

Standing on top of the hill side at the World Championships in Italy, seeing thousands of people lining the flood lit course. The sound was deafening!

Biggest disappointment

Worlds 2019. After some great prep coming into the race I felt like I was on top form. During my qualifying run I was on track to land myself in the top 10 ahead of finals. But my front wheel clipped a rock in a high speed turn. Before I knew, it I hit the deck. It’s been fuelling me for the last year.

2021 goals

I’m just looking forward to going racing again. It’s been a strange time being away for this long, but I’ve put in some great work since the end of the first lockdown. I’m pretty confident that I’ll be in a great position to do some damage both nationally and internationally.

Long term goals

Domestically, I’d like to see myself get both the National Champs title and National Series title. Internationally, it goes without saying, one day I’d love to have the World Champs title. Every time you’re selected for worlds, you go there with that as your goal.
