The Priority: Create a more social and welcoming campus environment that increases opportunities for connection across our campuses.

Context: Campuses feel separate from students’ social lives. I want to bring together our social and academic lives to create an environment that increases opportunities for connection among students. My aim is to do this through optimising campus spaces and events. This can only be done by listening to students and working hard to ensure that the voices of students are prioritised.

What we’ve achieved

Key Outcomes:

  • Set up ‘Poppy Pops Up’. Dedicated time on Truro Campus (KSPA) to meet weekly with Cornwall Medicine students and gather feedback and provide a regular friendly face. [First official date: 09/10/26].
  • Organised and planned a survey to continuously gather feedback on student events. Focusing on what went well, what could be improved, and most importantly, do they foster community?
  • Attended campus partner meetings which have built the foundations for continuous collaboration on campus events.

Why this matters

Students consistently report that friendships gained at university are the most memorable part of their student experience. Therefore, it is vital that we maintain and improve opportunities for students to develop these connections. Social spaces and events should be designed with students in mind, so the feedback I get from you guys will help directly influence future developments, whilst facilitating continuous feedback that allows for change alongside the ever-changing student body.

What’s next?

Immediate Next Steps:

  • Launch the post event feedback questionnaire and continuously analyse student perspective to inform future steps.
  • Feedback student views on events to campus partners by 01/12/2026.
  • Get involved in conversations on campus space development.

Accountability Check: Updates on these actions will be shared on 18/12/2026
