Dydh da! Siobhan ov vy! Pennskol Aberfal agas dynnargh!
Hello! My name is Siobhan! Welcome to Falmouth University!
I’m a second-year Robotics student, but I also work as a developer, which means I’m lucky enough to combine my studies with real-world industry experience. Problem solving is always at the heart of what I do, whether it’s tackling tricky code or helping students navigate university life. As your department rep, my role is to make sure your voices are heard; from raising feedback to staff, celebrating what’s going well, or helping address any hurdles that come up. I will do my very best to make sure that your concerns, suggestions, and achievements don’t go unnoticed.
Away from my desk, you'll find me curled up my log burner with a hot drink and a good book. If you're able to peel me away from the sofa, then I'm frequently found cooking and baking with my husband, playing hide-and-seek with my mischievous cat, or fending off my greedy little bantams who are always demanding more snacks!
It could be because I’m Cornish, but I think there’s something really special about studying in Cornwall. One of the things I love most is the unique mix of past and future: we’re surrounded by ancient Celtic landscapes, mystical stone circles, windswept moors, and a county rich in myth and legend, yet we’re also home to thriving digital, tech, and gaming communities. The ability to wander down to the beach after lectures, explore stunning coastal paths, or simply enjoy the slower pace of life makes living here truly special. Cornwall is a place where history and innovation coexist beautifully, and it’s incredibly inspiring to be part of both worlds.
One piece of advice I’d give to anyone starting out is to embrace curiosity and try everything! It doesn't matter if you're not good at it straight away, making mistakes is half the fun. All the matters is that you are doing exactly that - having fun! And above all, remember that balance is key. Make time for your studies, but also for rest, hobbies, and friends.
I can’t wait to get to know you all; whether you’re from Cornwall, moving here for the first time, or joining us from abroad, this is a great place to study computing. If you have any feedback, ideas, or just want to chat about programming, robotics, or even just a general natter, please come and say hi!
