We’re excited to introduce Charlie Florey, who has recently joined the Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union team as Head of Communities.
Charlie brings a huge amount of experience from his time in the charity sector, where he spent the past seven years managing frontline operations for the RNLI in Cornwall. He’s also completed overseas stints with the Australian Lifeguard Service and led water safety education initiatives across the South West.
What does the Head of Communities do?
The Head of Communities is all about building connections. Charlie leads our work supporting:
- Student groups, societies, and communities across both Falmouth University and the University of Exeter in Cornwall.
- Volunteering and community-based projects that help students make a difference locally.
- Student-led events and projects aiming to improve student mental health and build a sense of community.
Passionate about community engagement
For Charlie, joining The SU is all about working with people:
“I’m deeply passionate about community engagement and love working alongside driven, enthusiastic young people. Cornwall is such a unique and vibrant place, and I see real potential for external charities and organisations to collaborate with the students’ union - creating partnerships that are genuinely beneficial for everyone involved.”
Charlie is excited to get stuck in and meet as many students as possible:
“I’m really looking forward to getting out and about on campus, listening to your needs and priorities, and finding the best ways we can support you. Please do come and say hello if you see me—I’m always keen to hear your thoughts and ideas on how we, as your Students’ Union, can help you make the most of your university experience.”
