Welcome Fayre can be super exciting but also overwhelming, whether you’re fresh out of school or a third year. No worries, here’s a chill guide to help you get the best out of it without stressing!
Have a Quick Plan, But Don’t Overthink It
Our Welcome Fayre is full of societies, clubs, local businesses and organisations and even different teams from across the Universities! Think about what you might want to visit but there is no need to visit every stall, just make sure to swing by The SU stall!
Dress Comfy
Comfy shoes are always a must! Our fayre is spread across a few different areas of the campus (don’t worry there will be signs and people to help direct you) so make sure to bring a layer or two in case the weather changes.
Bring a Small Bag With Basics
Water bottle, phone or notebook for jotting stuff down, maybe a reusable bag for all the freebies you’ll get. Trust us, you’ll get loads!
Chat a Bit — Even If You’re Shy
The best part? Meeting people and finding your community. If you’re shy, just ask one or two quick questions at stalls. People love to talk about their clubs or services. You might find something unexpected that clicks.
Don’t Miss the Support Services
Uni life is more than just lectures. Check out stalls for support services too! Even if you don’t need them right now, it’s good to know where to find help later.
Take Notes or Snap Pics
You’ll get loads of info, use your phone or jot stuff down so you don’t forget. It’ll save you from panicking later.
Follow Up After the Fayre
The Welcome Fayre is just the start. Join those clubs you liked, sign up for volunteering or jobs, and keep an eye on your uni emails or portal for updates. Getting involved early makes uni way more fun!
Final Tip: Do You, No Pressure
Welcome Fayre is your chance to explore uni life on your terms. Don’t feel like you have to do everything or be anyone else. Take your time, follow your interests, and remember: everyone’s figuring it out.
