Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union launches new sportswear partnership and bespoke kit range

Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union has launched a new sportswear partnership with SWAZ, bringing a new bespoke kit range to the Union’s sports clubs, societies and student groups.

The new range has been designed specifically for Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union, creating a more unified visual identity across the Union’s sports teams and wider student activity.

The partnership will see SWAZ supply playing kit, training wear, society clothing and wider campus wear, with dedicated online shops allowing teams and students to order their clothing directly.

Rather than creating individual designs for each club, the new range has been developed around a shared design system inspired by the university and the places its students call home.

SWAZ’s design team visited the campus as part of the process, taking inspiration from its architecture, landscape, art and visual culture. The team also looked back through previous university sports kits to understand the history and identity of sport at Falmouth and Exeter.

These influences have been brought together with existing Students’ Union branding, including its typography, colours and visual identity, to create a bespoke pattern and design system that features across the new range.

The project also has a personal connection to Falmouth, with SWAZ kit designer and Falmouth alumnus Liam leading the design work.

“Falmouth holds a special place for me because I loved my time there. Sport and social groups have remained such a big part of my life since graduating, so to come back and lead the design of the kit and university clothing that students will be wearing is something I never expected to be able to say.

“Being able to bring those two worlds together – my time as a student and everything I’ve learned since – made this a really special project to work on. I really hope the students love it as much as we loved making it.”

The partnership reflects the role that sport, societies and student groups play in creating community and belonging across the Students’ Union. The new range provides a consistent identity while allowing individual teams and groups to retain their own identity within it.

Dean, Marketing Director at SWAZ, said:

“Sport has always been a huge part of what we do at SWAZ, and university sport is particularly exciting because of the memories and communities that come with it.

“We’re incredibly proud to be working with Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union. As a South West company, there’s something particularly meaningful about working with a university and Students’ Union so close to home.

“What really excited us about the project was the opportunity to create something that connects the different sports, teams and student groups through one identity, rather than treating each one as a separate project. The result is a design system created specifically for Falmouth and Exeter that can be worn on the pitch, in competition and across campus.”

The first dedicated club shops are now live, with students and team leads able to access their sport’s individual shop, order kit and have it delivered directly to them.

The range will continue to develop throughout the partnership, with additional sports, societies and products being added over time.
