Falmouth & Exeter Students’ Union’s CSM Surf dominates BUCS Surf Championships with women’s title and multiple podium finishes
CSM Surf delivered an outstanding weekend at the BUCS Surf Championships in Newquay (16-18th October), with a team of 13 surfers securing the women’s title, third place in the men’s competition and more finalists than any other university.
CSM Surf headed to Newquay last weekend to compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Surf Championships, putting in a series of impressive performances across a challenging weekend of competition.
The championships kicked off on Friday in big, challenging surf, testing competitors’ abilities in demanding conditions. As the weekend progressed, the swell gradually dropped, leaving clean, waist-high waves for the final day of competition on Sunday.
CSM made its mark throughout the event, with more surfers progressing to finals day than any other university. The team’s standout achievement came in the women’s competition, where CSM secured all four places in the final, showcasing the depth of talent within the club.
The women’s final saw an exciting all-CSM battle between Tegan, Eva, Oceana and Daisy. Tegan ultimately claimed the BUCS women’s title, finishing ahead of her sister Eva in second place, with teammates Oceana and Daisy completing the final in third and fourth respectively.
CSM also celebrated success in the men’s competition, with Tom producing an impressive performance to reach the final. Facing two surfers from the main campus in a highly competitive heat, he battled hard to secure a well-earned third-place finish.
The results mark a fantastic weekend for CSM Surf, with multiple podium finishes, an impressive number of finalists and a complete sweep of the women’s final highlighting the strength of surfing talent at Falmouth & Exeter Students’ Union.
The team’s performances underline the club’s continued success on the university surfing circuit and provide plenty to celebrate following a memorable weekend in Newquay.
