Looking to make new friends in a fun, relaxed, and fast-paced way? Join us for an exciting Speed-Friending Social at the Stannary Bar! Meet a variety of friendly faces in a series of quick, engaging conversations that keep the energy high and the laughs flowing. Whether you're new to the area or just want to expand your social circle, this event is designed to spark connections and build friendships — minus the pressure. Grab a drink, say hello, and share stories, hobbies, and jokes in a vibrant atmosphere. Come alone or bring a buddy, and leave with new pals and great memories. Friendship has never been this fun — see you there! 

What is the key accessibility information?

• Loud noises – there will be speaking over microphones and music. 

• Crowds  

• Small spaces – the bar can get busy at times! 

• There are both steps and a ramp to enter/exit the venue. 

• Disabled toilets can be found just opposite the bar entrance, and another one just around the corner. 

• If you need a quiet space to get away from the event, the nearest quiet space would be the comfy seating areas in Lower and Upper Stannary. 

• If you have a problem, staff from the SU present at the event will be on hand to support you. There will also be bar staff present who are able to help if you have any issues. Please have a chat with any member of staff in the first instance if you need anything. 

Who is running the event?

This event is being run by the Sabbatical Officers from The SU. Our Meet the Team page includes information about every member of The SU team.

If you need a buddy to support you with arriving at the event, please email The SU on info@thesu.org.uk and we will work out what we can arrange to help. This might be someone meeting you before the event start time or simply talking you through more details of what to expect. We want to help you access our events so let us know what you need.

Where is the event taking place?

The event is taking place at The Stannary Bar at Penryn Campus. This is in the centre of the campus and is best accessed by taking the steps up from the train station, walking towards the lodge. The best way to enter the venue is through the automatic doors to the Stannary, which are found further to the left of the Exchange building entrance (the rotating doors to the library). The bar will then immediately be on your left as you enter the building.

What should I expect?

At this event, there will be bright lights and lots of people moving around. We have plans in place for if the space becomes too busy.

There will be a member of staff present to support the event and answer your questions. There will be photography and videography at this event that will be used for SU marketing, please speak to the member of staff if you don’t want your photo taken.

This event is only for students of Falmouth University and the University of Exeter Cornwall Campus.

If you need a quiet space to get away from the event, the nearest space would be the Students’ Union, Multifaith Chaplaincy, Library Retreat Room.
