Welcome to FXU Athletics Club!
FXU Athletics Club is a Track & Field, Cross Country and social running club, which is open to people of all levels of experience, ability, and disciplines.
Our Athletics Club is made up of both competitive athletes and social runners of all abilities and disciplines within athletics.
FXU Athletics Club
- Sprinters/Field athletes have the opportunity to train 3 times a week: twice at our local track in Redruth on a Tuesday and Thursday with coaches from Cornwall Athletics Club, alongside a indoor circuit session with the whole team in the Penryn Campus Sports Hall each Monday. Sprinters/ Field athletes are managed by Track and Field Captain Elen.
- Endurance athletes are able to attend our indoor circuit session on a Monday in the Penryn Campus Sports Hall alongside athletes from other disciplines within the society. We also offer a track session on a Tuesday in Redruth to support training for our university track meets with the coaches from Cornwall Athletics Club as well as a Hill Session on a Thursday led by various members of our committee. Cross Country runners are managed by Cross Country Captain Amber.
We attend competitions all around the year, including the BUCS Indoor, Outdoor, Cross-Country Championships and two Varsity Competitions. Our club is a great place to increase your fitness levels, get in shape and make good friends. In recent years we have won 'Sports Club of the Year' and 'Most Improved Sports Club of the Year'; even achieving a BUCS medal and are hoping to continue the success we have had over the last six years in 2022/23!
Social Running (Previously FX Run)
Our society is not simply limited to competition. We have a thriving social running scene led by our three social running coordinators Ethan, Cerys and Anna. Between the three of them, they have run and discovered a whole range of routes in Penryn and the surrounding areas, ensuring you see the very best Falmouth, Penryn and our neighbouring towns!
Starting out running can be tough, but it doesn't have to be! Running along with like-minded people can make the miles fly by, and both of our coordinators have enough experience to help guide you in everything from how to approach hills, night-running, completing that first 5km, that first marathon, mud, roads, trails, running form, proper warm-ups, and much, much more! The world of running doesn't have to be perpetuity of 3km runs through town, and our social running group is here to help you.
Are you a more experienced runner looking to join others on a faster or longer run? We are here to help! our coordinators are used to runs in excess of 15km (some up to 95km!) and we will be offering longer runs every Sunday. Between our three Social Running Coordinators we are able to cater for new and old athletes with a range of different speeds and experience to ensure that all of our members feel welcome and comfortable running with us.
As in previous years, we also offer the opportunity to take part in park runs to all of our social running members. These are excellent opportunities to either get your first taste of competition or simply get a new 5km PB!
We meet three times a week. On Wednesdays, Saturdays (for the local Park Run) and Sundays, offering 5km, 10km, and longer on our Sunday runs as well as park runs, and running tutorials aimed at less experienced runners.
