What is Aerial

[Page in progress]

What We Do

We offer a variety of apparatuses, including:

  • Aerial Hoop (Lyra)
  • Silks
  • Vertical Dance (Harness)
  • Trapeze
  • Hammock (Sling)

Outside our weekly training sessions you can expect different events during the year, such as peformances and showcases with other societies, social events to get to know one-another, fun themed photoshoots, and much more!

We are supported by a local aerial company, Yskynna (yer-skin-ah), who have performed at Glasonbury!

Our Values

  • Inclusivity: We welcome people of all ages, gender identities, and skill levels. (In fact, most of our members join as complete beginners! We'll teach you everything you need to know.)
  • Safety: We prioritise the safety and well-being of all our members. Every new trick or move will be explained as many times as needed, and a committee member will always spot you. All our equipment also goes through bi-annual LOLER checks, to ensure it is 100% safe
  • Community: We have a great community of like-minded people who will cheer each other, trade skills, and ensure everyone feels welcome.

Weekly Sessions

  • Every Saturday at the Penryn Campus Sports Centre from 10:00am to 12:00pm - £5 a session

What to Expect at a Weekly Session

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Structure: After a 10-minute warm up, participants are divided into groups based on ability. There are 3 set-ups within the session, usually hoop, silks, and harness. The seperate groups get 45 minutes each on all three apparatuses to learn new moves and techniques.

Have a preference for a specific apparatus? Let our committee know, and you can focus solely on your preferred discipline!

Before a Session

  • Make sure to bring a water bottle
  • Leave your jewellery at home! It can snag and damage the silks.
  • Tops: Wear something that is not too loose, you will be upside down at times and shirts can ride up. Wear something that is form-fitting or can be tucked into pants.
  • Bottoms: Leggings or sweatpants work best, again avoid anything too flowy as it may get trapped.
