Make A Change

Make A Change is a powerful tool which enables you to submit ideas to the Student Council to be voted and acted upon. If other students vote in favour of your suggestion, the SU will work towards implementing it! Your voice can and will make a change.

How Make A Change works for you

The Make A Change platform enables any student to submit an idea or campaign through the website without waiting for a rep meeting or Union General Meeting (UGM).

The proposal must:

  1. Have at least 25 likes, and 25 more likes than dislikes within 6 weeks of posting in order to be added to the SU Student Council agenda, otherwise it will be rejected.
  2. Be owned by a named student and have a clear impact that benefits members of the students' union.

The SU Student Council will then decide the future course of action for the proposal based on their powers and remit. The SU Student Council can vote to:

  • Allocate the task to one or more council members to take responsibility for it
  • Reject the idea
  • Request more information or more evidence of support

You can contact The SU team to find out more about how Make a Change works.

The below suggestions have mostly been submitted in the academic year 2023/24. If you want to find out more about the Student Council click here.

    Sleeping pods on University campuses

Sleeping pods (SP) offer students who experience extreme fatigue due to factors outside their control, e.g. a chronic illness, a chance to recover and return to their studies feeling refreshed. SP can encourage students to come to their in-person lectures if they know there's a chance to sleep and recover. Students should be able to sign up for 30min-1 hr slots during working hours (9 am-5 pm). Some validation may be needed, e.g. a letter of diagnosis or a conversation with the student.

10:20pm on 6 Oct 23 Great idea, but I think it should be open to everyone, as often having a private space can be useful for short-term mental health issues where these pods would also be extremely helpful.

5:34pm on 19 Jan 24 This would also be great for any unhoused students struggling to find a place. If it could be used after hours, that would be great
