FXU Big Wins so Far!

 

Below is our list of big wins for the first term of the 2015/16 academic year. With your help, and your priorities in mind, we have managed to have a successful year for you the students so far.

Check out what the FXU Presidents have been up to and already achieved!

 

FXU President Community & Welfare - Alexa Webster:

 

  • Worked with Amanda (FXU President Student Experience) and the Estates Team to make The Chapel fully accessible
     
  • White Poppies now available during Remembrance 
     
  • Provided work experience for 9 students
     
  • Documented her Hijab Experience with ISOC for the Falmouth Anchor
     
  • #NoBlurredLines fridge magnets are now in every student halls kitchen
     
  •  #NoBlurredLines campaign sent to every Student Union nationally
     
  • #FXULovesYou campaign online
     
  • Hosted drop in sessions averaging 8 students a week
     
  • Arranged and hosted a Faith Fayre
     
  • Shelley Asquith (NUS Vie-President Welfare) visited for the Faith Fayre
     
  • First ever Liberation Committee formed
     
  • Permanent funding secured for a wider selection of condoms and sexual protection
     
  • Elected to the NUS Welfare Zone Committee

 

FXU President Student Experience - Amanda Chetwynd-Cowieson:
 

  • Out of term time bus prices down to £1 – moving towards £1 all year round!
     
  • Car parking tickets weren’t chased up for the week when spaces were taken away prematurely
     
  • Car parking spaces released back for student use in January 2016.
     
  • Helped organise a New Years Eve brunch for international students who remained here over the Christmas break.
     
  • Richard Brooks (NUS Vice President Union Development) hosted the Committee conference and in general loved all things FXU and Cornwall.
     
  • Increased money in the Falmouth hardship fund reflecting that international students can now apply
     
  • Worked with Alexa (FXU President Community & Welfare) and the estates team to make the chapel fully accessible
     
  • Helped students with their applications for the SLEPF (Student Led Event and Project Funding), Annual Fund and Green Fund
     
  • FXU provided study spaces during January exams/deadlines due to student feedback about overcrowding in the library
     
  • Hosted the Falmouth Deputy Mayor and Penryn Town Mayor at the FXU Orchestra Christmas extravaganza
     
  • Food trucks will have a trial on the Woodlane Campus
     
  • Work has started to make the Lower Stannary more friendly for students working in the evening
     
  • Collaboration with The Falmouth Anchor on the ‘In The Spotlight’ section highlighting clubs and societies achievements  

 

FXU President Falmouth - Fred Mallin:

 

  • 2 PhD students got dedicated work space, support and supervisors
     
  • MFA now have clearer course structure and course reps, appropriate work space and course reps
     
  • Falmouth mentors now have dedicated Erasmus and Study Abroad mentors
     
  • Fred (FXU President Falmouth) will now be included at an earlier stage in the course suspension and cessation process
     
  • Hosted a Study Abroad returners event
     
  • Better clarification surrounding the appeals process
     
  • Financial Transparency – additional costs are now published online
     
  • Falmouth are now producing a cross-subsidisation document

 

FXU President Exeter - Grace Fisher:

 

  • FXU provided study spaces during January exams/deadlines due to student feedback about overcrowding in the library
     
  • Held coffee and cake sessions with Exeter medical students in Truro
     
  • Wifi will be in the Knowledge Spa common room in Truro from April 2016
     
  • Truro based Exeter students have access to the FXU and The Compass website
     
  • Hosted a Study Abroad returners event
     
  • Hosted a study abroad Q & A for students looking to go abroad next year
     
  • PGT Subject chair training held for the first time and they now have SSLC’s
     
  • PGR Networking event (With Alice Nicholls – FXU Widening Student Participation Assistant)
     
  • Successful ‘town hall’ style meetings held allowing open feedback to senior management
     
  • Worked with Tom Murray-Richards to initiate SID (Student Information Desk) office hours
     
  • Tim Quine (DVC Education) visited Cornwall and held a feedback session with students
     
  • Cornwall based Exeter students will no longer receive emails from Exeter Guild

 

Collective wins from all FXU Presidents:

 

  • More candidates stood in the FXU Part Time Officer, Liberation Committee and Council Elections
     
  • More students voted in the FXU Part Time Officer, Liberation Committee and Council Elections
     
  • Hosted a fully packed Presidents Quiz
     
  • Hosted successful Exec training
     
  • Held a successful UGM (Union General Meeting) on the topic of student growth
     
  • Co-ordinated and hosted the International Student Arrivals weekend
     
  • All First Year cohorts met the Presidents at least twice
     
  • Penryn Town Mayor attended the Freshers Fayre and was overly impressed with the clubs, societies, volunteering groups and RAD
     
  • Arranged a Candlelit Vigil
