What It’s Like To Be A Student Rep

Student Reps are vital in making sure the student voice is heard at every level of the University decision making process. Every course year group has a Student Rep, elected by their peers, who will gather your feedback and work with course leaders to ensure your voice is listened to, valued, and acted upon. Reps work in partnership with the Students’ Union and the University to make sure the University environment is constantly evolving and shaping in response to your feedback.

For more details check out our Student Rep info page.

The Election Process

The election process for becoming a Student Rep starts with students (that’s YOU!) submitting themselves as a candidate via our Elections Page.

Nominations are open until Friday 1st October, election polls then open on Monday 4th October where voting will take place until Thursday 7th October. The new Student Reps will be announced on Friday 8th October. So, keep your eyes peeled for the latest updates!

Head to our Election Pages for nomination and election guidelines.
Why Should I Nominate Myself?

There are heaps of reasons why you should nominate yourself to be a Student Rep – and this year it really is more important than ever to have your voice heard. Here are just a few benefits of becoming a Student Rep:
  • The chance to influence and make positive changes that ensure your course and university experience is the best it can be for you and your peers
  • Access to training resources for how to gather feedback, signpost students and escalate feedback to the appropriate people.
  • Develop transferrable skills in problem solving, leadership, networking, inclusivity and representation that will benefit your CV!
So, What Are You Waiting For?

Are you someone who enjoys getting involved, or who wants to help other students feel part of their university? Maybe you really love your subject, and want to work with other Reps and staff to explore how to engage students more. You don’t have to be the most confident or outgoing person to be a Rep; you just need to have an interest in creating a really great student experience.

Nominations are open NOW – so submit yourself as a candidate to start your Student Rep journey and we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.
What to do if you are struggling to nominate yourself through the SU website.

The SU is aware of a current system issue which may mean that you aren’t able to submit your nomination via our Elections Page. The universities are working on this so keep an eye on our socials for updates!

If you are attempting to nominate yourself but not having much luck – here’s what to do:
  • Are you logged in? Try this first, re-open the Elections Page and follow the instructions after clicking ‘Stand in Election’ for your chosen Rep role.
  • If you are still unable to submit yourself as a candidate, please email us at elections@thesu.org.uk where we can manually add you as a candidate.
Phwoarr technology hey! But seriously, thanks for bearing with us, sometimes things don’t go to plan and that’s ok! Our priority is YOU and we can’t wait for your journey to start with the Student Voice team!

Good luck! The SU, We've Got Your Back.
