Alumni Offer Student Volunteers a Boost!
The Falmouth & Exeter Students’ Union (FXU) is delighted to receive £2,000 in a successful bid to the University of Exeter’s Alumni Annual Fund. Funding is to be invested in the Union’s existing ‘Legends’ platform; an online system that provides student volunteers opportunity to connect with external community volunteering partners, record all their volunteering hours and receive incentives and recognition for the hours they offer to volunteering outside of their studies.
So far, nearly 500 students have logged over 32,000 hours this academic year, with a handful of individuals achieving the Platinum Legend Award; dedicating over 500 hours each to volunteering. Whilst studying in Cornwall, students from Falmouth, Penryn and Truro campuses have been working voluntarily in settings across the county and beyond, giving much needed support to charitable organisations and projects.
Rose Hitchens-Todd, Community Partnership Manager:
‘I would like to offer a huge thanks to the Alumni Annual Fund on behalf of the Students’ Union. This generous contribution will be invested in improvements to the ‘Legends’ website. It will also be used to purchase more incentives to award our fantastic volunteers and continue encouraging more students to commit their spare time to the many fantastic causes needing support.’
