The Estates team and FXU are looking for inspirational proposals for bus shelters on Penryn Campus. The winner will receive a £250.00 prize and the potential, subject to viability, to work with consultants to develop the proposal into a deliverable scheme. All the entries will be exhibited in The Compass.

Brief

The competition brief is focused on the requirement for bus passenger shelters at the entrance to the Penryn Campus. These will be adjacent to The Heart Project, which will provide a new reception, shop and significant landscape enhancements.
It is hoped that the bus shelter design will form the basis of a visual language to be used consistently on a range of shelters across the Penryn Campus, including bike, bin and smoking shelters.

Site

The shelters are to be located over the pedestrian pavement adjacent to the existing bus layby which is suitable for four buses with two drop and two pick up stops. It is anticipated that each bus stop will require a passenger shelter. Proposals may also include enhancements to the hard and soft landscaping of the adjacent areas.

Requirements

Drop off shelter footprint - for up to 15 passengers each
Pick up shelter foot print - for up to 75 passengers each
All shelters - minimum headroom of 2500mm

Considerations

Balance of function, aesthetics and economics * Safety and security (e.g. passenger and driver visibility) * Lifecycle cost (e.g. maintenance, cleaning, painting etc) * Replacement and repair * Local landscape topography, forms, materials and views * Campus history and context * Structure and services (e.g. lighting and wireless internet) * Sustainably sourced materials and minimising energy use * Prevailing wind and weather through the seasons * Passenger and campus information * Pedestrian flow and foot path width * Off-site or in-situ construction * Form and material proposals for The Heart Project

Submission

Proposals are welcomed from all enrolled students either as individuals or collaborative teams.
Entrants are requested to produce three A3 presentation boards on foam board backing suitable for exhibition. One each of Mood Board; Concept Images; Technical Drawings, for example plan, section and elevation.

Submissions to be anonymous with a unique reference provided on registration of interest with the Estates team at busstop@fxplus.ac.uk. Entries to be handed in to The Compass before the deadline.
