The Rest Of Us - Stories is an online magazine featuring contributions from students of colour across the University of Exeter. It was published last year and is available via Issuu here.
The magazine was part of an Education Incubator project designed to give voice and space to these students to share their experiences through creative expression. To commemorate the publication, this event will include a short introduction to the magazine, and sharing by some of the student contributors. This will be followed by a reflection on the magazine and her own work by award-winning novelist Nadifa Mohamed.
Nadifa Mohamed was born in Hargeisa, Somaliland in 1981, and moved to Britain with her family at the age of four. Her first novel, Black Mamba Boy (2010) won the Betty Trask Prize, and was shortlisted for many awards including the Guardian First Book Award, the PEN Open Book Award and the Dylan Thomas Prize. Her second novel, Orchard of Lost Souls (2013) won a Somerset Maugham Award. Her most recent novel, The Fortune Men (2021) was shortlisted for the 2021 Booker Prize. She was selected as one of Granta’s ‘Best of Young British Novelists’ in 2013 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Nadifa Mohamed lives in London.
