About the event
In celebration of International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we will highlight the accomplishments of Mary Anning, a pioneering palaeontologist. The event will begin with a short presentation outlining her remarkable career and the adversities she faced. After the talk, there will be a timed scientific sketching session of various specimens in different positions, an essential skill for any palaeontologist. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative and scientifically accurate sketches.
What is the key accessibility information?
Loud noise should be minimal as the event is limited to 21, including staff. However, students may chat loudly, and external noises may interfere. There are steps, elevator and ramp access into and out of the venue. There is also a disabled toilet below the venue. The nearest quiet spaces will be the Library Retreat Room, SU and chaplaincy. If you have a problem, you should alert the SU Crew members present (identifiable by their lanyards and pink tops). SU Crew can help you and seek action as appropriate using the Safe Zone app.
Who is running the event?
This event is being run by Avery from The SU. Our Meet the Team page includes information about every member of The SU team.
If you need a buddy to support you with arriving at the event, please email The SU on info@thesu.org.uk and we will work out what we can arrange to help. This might be someone meeting you before the event start time or simply talking you through more details of what to expect. We want to help you access our events so let us know what you need.
Where is the event taking place?
The event is taking place in room 7 in the Exchange Courtyard, Penryn. This is in the centre of the campus and is best accessed by taking the steps up from the train station, walking towards the lodge and continuing straight on to the Exchange, entering through the revolving doors and heading to the top of the stairs. Continue straight out the sliding double doors turning left and entering the exchange courtyard through the second set of double doors. Turn right heading straight along the courtyard hallways until you see room 7 on your left.
