There’s extra support for student parents in the form of a Parents’ Learning Allowance and the Childcare Grant.

Full-time students with dependent children could get extra financial help with their learning costs. This is called Parents’ Learning Allowance. The money can help pay for books, study materials and travel. How much you get depends on your household income.

Parents’ Learning Allowance

  • Doesn’t have to be paid back
  • Is paid on top of your other student finance
  • Won’t affect your benefits or tax credit

Childcare Grant

You may also be eligible to receive help towards the cost of childcare through a Childcare Grant.

The grant helps with childcare costs for children under 15, or under 17 if they have special educational needs. This money does not have to be paid back. Eligibility for a Childcare Grant is dependent on being eligible to apply for a tuition fees and maintenance loan.
