Your 2023/24 part-time officers and course reps are published on the website, we will update any empty positions as they are filled.

A great representative listens to you and helps make change happen. Course reps work with university staff to improve the academic experience at your university, according to what the students want to see.

Exeter Reps

The Students’ Union (SU) Representatives (Reps) are the foundation of student representation, promoting a partnership between students, academic staff and SU. They ensure the student experience of their peers is authentically represented throughout the course of their studies.

The roles representing each course are:

Subject Chair

Subject Chairs are senior academic representatives, representing all students studying in their subject at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Subject chairs work closely with University of Exeter staff and The SU to achieve positive change for students within their cohort.

Term of Office: One academic year

Objectives

  • To work collaboratively with the University and The SU to support and facilitate the student representation system.
  • Work with and support the Reps in your subject to promote, gather, and deliver effective student feedback.
  • Chair the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC), including:

Setting the agenda

Promoting constructive dialogue in the meeting

Assigning and monitoring the completion of actions from the meetings.

  • Meet directly with the Director of Education and Student Experience to informally resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an awareness of common feedback and present these at the Subject Chair Working Group.
  • Endeavour to make sure that feedback is: Accurate, Balanced, Constructive, Depersonalised & Evidenced.
  • In collaboration with staff, keep course reps updated on the progress of feedback for sharing with the wider student community.
  • Represent the student voice of the subject in strategic activity, such as feeding into the Teaching Excellence Action Plan (TEAP).
  • Make yourself known and promote the Rep system to the students you represent.

Purpose

  • Seek to resolve feedback informally with appropriate staff (see key contacts).
  • Provide agenda items highlighting academic feedback and present them at the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC).
  • Endeavour to make sure that feedback is: Accurate, Balanced, Constructive, Depersonalised & Evidenced.
  • Work in partnership with your department staff to ensure that your cohort are kept up to date on how feedback is being actioned.
  • Make yourself known and promote the Rep system to the students you represent.

Falmouth Reps

Falmouth Department Reps

Department Reps represent all students studying in their department at undergraduate and postgraduate taught level. Department Reps work closely with Falmouth University staff and The SU to achieve positive change for students in their department.

Objectives

  • To work collaboratively with the University and The SU to support and facilitate the student representation system.
  • Work with and support the Course Reps in your department to promote, gather, and deliver effective student feedback.
  • Chair the Student Staff Liaison Group (SSLG), including:

Understand the agenda ahead of time.

Promoting constructive dialogue in the meeting

Assigning and monitoring the completion of actions from the meeting.

  • Discuss common academic concerns and ideas with the Department Director and seek to resolve these in a timely and informal manner when possible.
  • Be aware of common themes arising from student feedback within the department and share these with your Faculty Rep, the Student Voice Team at The SU and SSLG through the SSLG tool.
  • Endeavour to make sure that feedback is: Accurate, Balanced, Constructive, Depersonalised & Evidenced.
  • In collaboration with staff, keep course reps updated on the progress of feedback for sharing with the wider student community.

Purpose

Work alongside Course Reps and Subject Chairs to monitor and champion Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. EDI Reps gather feedback from students in minoritised groups and share this feedback with fellow reps and their department making sure that these discussions are mindful of the whole student community.

Term of Office: One academic year

Objectives

  • Maintain a working understanding of EDI issues and how they may affect students in your cohort
  • Gather feedback from student in minoritised groups, notably BAME, International, Disabled, LGBTQ+ and Mature students
  • Represent EDI issues at the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC) and occasionally attend other meetings to provide feedback and discuss actions.
  • Regularly meet with other EDI Reps to share concerns raised across department to feedback to a higher level via The SU.
  • Seek to resolve issues informally with the appropriate staff (see key contacts).
  • Provide agenda items highlighting EDI feedback and present them at the Student Staff Liaison Committee (SSLC).
  • Endeavour to make sure that feedback is: Accurate, Balanced, Constructive, Depersonalised & Evidenced.
  • Work in partnership with your department staff to ensure that your cohort are kept up to date on how feedback is being actioned.
  • Make yourself known and promote the Rep system to the students you represent.

Student Council Elections 

Student Council is the campaigning and policy making body of The SU. Their role is to effectively represent the views of current Falmouth University and University of Exeter Cornwall student, so that representation runs through the core of all SU activity, services, and campaigns. We have 28 seats on Student Council, plus the Student Voice Chair.

NUS Delegate Elections

The students' union is affiliated with the National Union of Students (NUS). As part of this affiliation, elected conference delegates from The SU and other students' unions are invited to attend the NUS National Conference and the NUS Liberation conference each year.
