International Women's Day - 8th March 2022

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is “Break the bias.” As your SU, we want to use our platform to advocate against the biases and inequalities seen in daily activities, workplaces, or schools.

What is International Women's Day?

International Women’s Day (IWD) was officially deemed a national holiday by the United Nations in 1975. The day commemorates women’s social, political, and cultural achievements worldwide, while also highlighting the inequalities still experienced by many women.

Here are some things you can do to engage this IWD:

1) Participate in International Women’s Day #BreakTheBias campaign

This campagins asks people to take selfies with cards explaining what they will do to #BreakTheBias. This is an amazing way to visually show your support and is a fun thing to do with your friends - why not see how many friends you can get in your #BreakTheBias selfie?

You can download your own Selfie Cards to use here.

2) Send a message of appreciation to your women peers, colleagues, or family members

A simple messge of support or gratitude can go a long way, so why not let all the amazing women in your life know that they are doing a great job!

3) Watch a movie with a super strong female lead!

Nothing beats grabbing the popcorn and snuggling up with your fluffy socks on. Why not watch a movie with a passionate female lead like The Devil Wears Prada or Hidden Figures - both of which you can borrow from the Penryn Campus Library here.

4) Support a woman-owned small business

The pandemic has put a huge financial strain on many woman-owned businesses, especially those in the hospitality and retail field. So to show your support for these women’s entrepreneurial spirit, purchase clothing from their brands, eat at their establishments, or give a shout-out to their businesses on your social media.

5) Attend our amazing events!! (linked below)

Not to toot our own horn but we are doing some pretty wonderful things to celebrate this IWD. Check out what's on below and get involved!
