About the event

Recent events have shown how important it is to work together to tackle racism in all its forms. Cornwall Council want to help create an inclusive and anti-racist Cornwall. To help achieve this, and following up on their Cornwall We Want listening event in July, they are inviting you to join together in a new Race Equality Forum taking place online on Thursday 4 February, 6pm until 7.30pm

Cornwall Council is facilitating the event on behalf of the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) steering group, which was established last July in the wake of the global reaction to the death of George Floyd. They have proposed a new, more inclusive model to take forward race equality. This includes a Cornwall and Isles of Scilly ‘One and All’ Race Equality Forum and a Race Equality Core Group to take over the work of the BAME steering group.

The first Forum will include updates on the steps already taken and a discussion about how the new Forum and Core Group could work and what the priorities should be. It will also include guest speaker, Cllr Asher Craig, Deputy Mayor of Bristol for Communities, Equalities and Public Health, who will talk about Bristol’s experiences in tackling race inequality head on, the lessons they learned, what worked well and their hopes for the future.

To sign up for the session please visit the Let’s Talk Cornwall website https://letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/race-equality-forum  and answer a few short questions. A link to the online meeting will then be sent to you. We will continue to update this page with important information in the coming weeks.
